Perhaps the hottest—and most embraced—trend of 2022 is the epic rise of the “Coastal Grandmother.” Popularized by TikTok star Lex Nicoleta, the look has swept the worlds of fashion, interiors, beauty and even music.

“TikTok Is suddenly obsessed with living like a middle-aged divorcé,” says Kelsey Weekman of BuzzFeed. “You don’t need a beach house or grandkids to be a “coastal grandmother” — just a white button-down and a zest for life.” Adding to the buzz, Diane Keaton posted a tribute video to the concept, Nancy Meyers addressed the trend with bewilderment, and Glamour has declared this is not a trend, it’s a lifestyle.

“Coastal grandmother is an attempted rejection of life online and an embrace of what is real and tactile and simple,” says Jenny Singer of Glamour. “She lives the good life—fresh oysters, garden-grown vegetables, cocktails at any time, warm sweaters, a bed with good linens.” The Wall Street Journal defines the coastal grandmother as “an aspirational character, rooted in the heroines of Nancy Meyers’ early 2000s rom-coms “Something’s Gotta Give” and “It’s Complicated,” adding that “Coastal Grandmother chic involves blue-and-white china ginger pots and those omnipresent button-downs, for sure, but it’s also an attitude.”

Whether it’s an attitude, a lifestyle, or just a chic design direction for your summer look, we’re got you covered with all things Coastal Grandmother.
