A Guide To Styling With Canvas Prints
From Artist’s Canvas To Printed Canvas
At Artfully Walls it brings us so much joy to discover great artists and bring their work to you in its truest form. For many pieces, nothing feels more like an original than works printed on canvas.
The journey from artist’s canvas to printed canvas can be seen above in the photo taken by our editor, Michelle, when she stumbled upon artist Georgesse Gomez painting on a dock in Sausalito, California. Georgesse’s en plein air paintings are now available as prints on both fine art paper and—you guessed it—canvas! We particularly love the way her work looks printed on canvas, as the artist’s textural brushstrokes bring each print to life.
Canvas Prints At Home
Canvas prints look great just about anywhere you place them! Their deeper profile makes them easy to lean on shelves and ledges, and creates volume when added to a gallery wall grouping.
To Frame Or Not To Frame…
Front and back views of an unframed canvas (on the left) and framed canvas (on the right). Framed canvas prints feel a bit more formal and polished while unframed canvas feels more laid back. Both options are a fantastic way to add depth and visual interest to a gallery wall.

5 Tips For Styling With Canvas Prints
Mix styles and mediums for a look that feels collected over time. Try pairing a canvas print with a framed photograph and fine art print. Add a vintage piece or two to the mix for extra credit.
Consider the room’s style. Framed canvas prints tend to feel more formal than unframed canvas. Try unframed canvas pieces in cottages, playful gallery walls, guest rooms, kids rooms, and any space that’s designed to feel more casual. Framed canvas is a great option for formal dining rooms, living rooms, offices, primary bedrooms and so on.
Include at least one canvas piece in every gallery wall to add depth and visual interest to the grouping.
Lean canvas works on a ledge or bookshelf for a cool artsy vibe.
Consider your budget. Unframed canvas is less expensive than framed works. We like to use a mix of framed and unframed canvas works on larger gallery walls to save on cost.
