Tea Time

Afternoon tea is the new happy hour,” declared the editors of Pinterest after seeing searches for ‘high tea food ideas’ spike 4x. Meanwhile, similar searches for ‘vintage tea party’ spiked a shocking 70%. “In 2022, people will choose darjeeling with a friend over drinks after work. Afternoon tea is more than a meal—it’s a moment, an aesthetic, a pose,” states Pinterest in its 2022 trend predictions. Pinterest isn’t the only company noticing an increased interest in tea—Whole Foods Market’s top ten food trend predictions for 2022 includes Yuzu, Hibiscus, Moringa and Turmeric.

The art and design worlds have taken notice too, with features on tastemaker’s favorite mugs to new tea-inspired works by hip contemporary artists including Meta Wraber, Danielle Kroll, Rafaela Mascaro and more. “Tea brings us together, makes us pause and reflect, refreshes, soothes and comforts, I love tea,” says artist Paula Mills.
